A lot of 'ifs' raised in the article, such as what if they sell their 28mpg 1986 'scrap' car and buy a new Expedition? If they really want a concrete step in reducing emissions and dependency on foreign oil, they could dump the daytime headlight program, according to this article at http://www.howstuffworks.com/question424.htm . This claims that if every car in the US had daytime lights, an extra 406 million gallons of gasoline would be consumed, and an extra 8 billion pounds of CO2 released! Even if this article is 10 times too pessimistic, it is still a lot of gasoline and pollution spent on good intentions. I worry every time a politician starts to talk about nobel ideas, which is sort of like a chicken urging people to be vegetarians!
