My first 3 cars were 1980-1992 jetta diesel's with about the same 1.6n/a engine all of like 52hp imagine that in a larger car. I loved the cold start cable u can idle up the engine like on a hill whatever and they are gear just so there easy to drive even a novist. I can say i miss my jetta i don't miss the timing belt changes every 40-80K tho if they had a chain or gear now i'd be driving one still can't beat there simplicity or ease to work on or there fuel economy even vs a newer one. Tho there 87-92mph speed limit going down hill on 10% grade is kinda sad but i drove 4 hrs every weekend and got use to it just hold the throttle wide open all the way worked wonders
