Will it start?
Do you think it will do a cold morning start with the reduced cranking speed you are going to suffer when you put on that geared starter. If you gear it down 25 percent, you probably won't loose 25 percent speed, because the starter will not be bogged down. But it will be slower. Might be well worth the 2 or 3 gallons of fuel to keep the old Cummins running on those cold nights.
