Sounds like the typical "new" Mercedes stuff. For $70 and a weekends worth of time you can fix it up.
Here is what a flex disk looks like (there is one at the front of the drive shaft just behind the transmission, and one at the back of the transmission just in front of the differential)
Hopefully yours does not look like this:
While you are under there also try giving the drive shaft a wiggle at the center support bearing (Under the car between the front seats).
