The new MB's use glass matt batteries which are sealed and cost more, most have two actualy.

MB makes life pretty simple though, they only use a handfull of batteries. From W210 backwards they all use pretty much the same battery, the group 93. The newer ones can get a bit confusing, but a 93 should work for 95% of the older cars.
