Mechanic said that it is obvious that 1 or more lifters loose oil during the night and you could here them at cold start up. This is not the 1 case with Febi lifters in his work...He is very experienced Mechanic he owes authorized Mercedes service for more than 30 years....

correct Base shim adjustment is critical at anytime, may have been your issue to begin with, most shops i have seen don't like to do it or do not have the correct tool (see pic below) and shim assortment, it can also be quite time consuming if they are not familiar with how to do it. also the wrong shims can not only cause noise, but misfires and rough idle. sounds like you need to find a better mercedes shop. ask if he owns this tool and shim set.
