Your car has an idle speed control valve.
Turn the key on and off you should hear the valve click.
If not remove the valve, and see that it is open.
With key on ck to see that you have 12 volts on the connector.
If yes, take out the valve clean it with maf spray cleaner and try to free it up.
Do all that and come back.

From your description the idle valve is stuck.
That's why you can start the car, and then it dies.
