When I was heading from Madison -> Mpls., same thing happened. Also near Mauston. The left front tire tread on my '66 Olds Toronado sep'd and must have been doing 70. Scary situation, but luckily I was in the right lane and pulled to the side.

The Toro was one of the first cars that had a positive offset wheel rim, which minimized the pull that a defective tire would have on that side of the car. VW made much of this feature in ads for the Dasher sedan back inthe Seventies.
