I have been turned down a lot by restaurants. However I find the local restaurants are more willing. The chains seem to have a system set up. Also the quality of the food seems to make a difference -- that is how often they change out the oil. We have one sandwich shop, that when we get the oil, it is almost as clear as new.
We have found that Chinese buffets can get us at least 50 gallons a week.... if not more of good oil. My favorite places are the ones that put it direct into cubes for us!
I just stop by and pick up the cubes.
Persistence pays off. That and I make sure I stop by once and a while to have lunch/dinner at the places to thank them.
I am now taking my "left over oil" -- the oil from the bottom of the cubes -- to a biodiesel place to be converted in Biodiesel.
