I haven't had my TDI long enough yet, but I think the EGR-plugging problem is related to lack of highway/spirited driving and maybe lack of cetane additives. I don't expect to have this problem but I know it happens to people occasionally.

I don't think MB and VW new cars have lousy reliability. I've read the consumer reviews on Edmunds and most people have given the CDI and Bluetec 10/10 and they absolutely love the cars.
