I normally replace the filters and change the oil in my car. I take it to the mechanic if I need to fix something. The procedure suggested by my mechanic is no different from what I have done in the past except putting a quart of transmission fluid in the fuel tank. However, if I had to drain and clean the system, I would definitely let a professional handle it. Keep it mind that the car is running, but is knocking and shaking a little.
