Easy Test for Shocks/Springs?

Hi,

Awesome site with a huge knowledgebase! It’s one of my daily web stops!

I have done a search and while there are many threads regarding shocks & springs, there does not seem to be an easy test/gauge for evaluating the condition of the shocks & springs.

I have a 1982 380SL with 31,000 (documented) original miles. The sub frame was replaced at the time I purchased the car a year ago as well as tune up, rims & tires, AC conversion, etc. While I have no complaints about the car or how it runs, it appears that the rear end is sagging slightly. Is this due to shocks & springs? I hate to shell out the money if that is not the cause.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Tim
