Must be a casting number. The block part number per EPC is 603 010 59 05. No replacement block part number.

There are 3 blocks in the sequence for an early 95 .971. There are 3 complete engine part numbers in the sequence but only 2 long block part numbers. I can't find the VIN of a late 95 .971 to see if there is more in the sequence.

But back to my point, there is a 13mm bolt hex behind the power steering reservoir. It goes toward the passenger side into the block directly ahead of the IP. An inch above where the bolt goes into the block is a flat horizontal surface that extends from the head gasket surface about a half inch wide and 4 inches long. Give that surface a spritz with parts cleaner followed by a wipe with a rag wrapped around a screwdriver. Shine light on the surface and read the engine serial number. If it ends in 002162, you have a new head on the original block. No sense investigating further unless you see a different serial number.
