I bought a Racor 500FG for the D, was going to install it instead of the stock filter and pre-filter.
The idea is to have better flow, plus having the clear bowl, cyclonic pre-filtering and 2u filtration. Also it is heated so I wouldn't need to worry about the wax-point of fuel in the winter if I take it out on a cold day.
It does bother me to not know if my filter is clogging, no Racor gauge and no clear bowl, never know when the factory filter is going to leave the engine high and dry. I'm used to the Racor in boats and motorhomes, it just works.

Another great thing IMO about the Racor is the top-loading filter element, the filter housing stays full (almost) when you change the element. If it is after the lift pump, you change the element, start the car with the lid loose, when fuel starts bubbling out around the lid you tighten the wing-nut on top. Really easy and predictable.
