Thanks for the update Jim and good luck with the car. I was tempted to bid on the car but Michigan is too far away. Its good to hear this car has found a good home to a forum member.
FYI, I never remove the engine shield/cover to change oil. I use a couple of long extensions to get to the drain bolt (I make sure I don't overtorque putting it back it). Changing the oil in my 300E is the easiest of all my cars, no jacking it up, just duck under the bumper and remove the drain bolt. While the oil is draining I replace the filter and check other things.
