I had that happen on a '78 Honda Civic and a '96 Ford Contour. Both cause no damage to the car. I think the Honda had a non-interference motor and the Contour might have, but I hear most survive this. I did have a slight tick in the valve train for a while afterwards. I did look at the valves while rotating the motor and didn't see any valves stick open. THe belt only had about 45K on it. Sorry to hear about your luck though.
