Dropping the crossmember gives the tranny room to drop at the tailshaft.

This makes it easier to get a line on the bolts, but you need to be careful not to damage the accelerator linkage. Since you will need to drop the shifter linkage, driveshaft and exhaust, this does not add too much to the job.

Remember to support the tailshaft, don't let it hang free.

Don't forget to drain the fluid out of the trans pan before disengaging the trans.
