Some were from newegg, others were from other places that had better deals.
The basic hardware, with a Q6600, an Intel P35 motherboard with good BIOS temperature control, 2x2GB memory, mirrored 500GB drives, a DVD-RW, and DVD-R, a decent video card (an nVidia 9600GT), the case and PS, Vista 64, Office, the VM and various other software, and parts to make it silent (various heatsinks and fans) were about $1400. I overclocked it modestly to 3GHz (it was stable to about 3.5 at reasonable voltages, but I wanted the silence and she did not need the added speed). She bought a decent 24" monitor for another $450.
She uses it to run her business, so this is peanuts for her. She likes it a lot, and that is the best recommendation.
You can't hear the computer from a foot away, which is rather nice for the power it packs.
