25 mmHg to my transmission, what?

I've been having some vacuum related transmission issues for a long time. I start off in 2nd gear and can't kickdown unless I manually move the lever. That's fine, I'll deal with that later.

But, I'm in 4th gear by 25 mph -- my car never has a chance to get into its power band and get moving, and the 63 horses in my '83 240D need all the help they can get.

I dug out a vacuum diagram and looked at the connections. I've removed and plugged the single line going from the top of the valve cover to the EGR hardware, but it looks like the previous owner did something screwy, because I'm missing an entire "T" connector and an "oriface" of some sort.

I put my MityVac on a "T" between the valve cover and the transmission modulator and it registered 25 in.Hg. at idle. ForcedInduction has mentioned it should be closer to 8-10 inHg. I didn't even bother to check the VCV operation.

Does anyone know what part #s for orifaces are supposed to be? I'm about to go crazy about this.
