The 240D is really not that bad! It has pretty good acceleration for a car of this type and most complaints I've heard are from owners who have never looked at their fuel injectors for wear or pattern spray and pop comparison test. This will make a great deal of difference along with regular maintenance including valve adjustments!
I advanced my Injection timing by 3* and adjusted my ALDA for greater output to compensate for using Biodiesel and I can get to 55 much sooner than the 27 seconds I've heard about!
