The Super Hornet doesn't need to take a back seat to any plane for noise, imo. The GE J-79's were loud, but to my ear, the Hornet's engines are louder.Supposedly 117 db with AB's lit. They scream!
I never saw the Blue Angels fly the Phantom. But I saw plenty of F-4 cat shots back in the day
The RA5C had the same J-79's too, but for some reason they seemed louder to me. Maybe because the could outrun the F4.
The Navy has had worlds of trouble with pissed off neighbors at NAS Oceana. Lawsuits out the gazoo...
