I can't do without the (a) wagon, but find myself hot for a w124 400e/e400, or maybe even a w210 V8. Way more go fast without too much more fuel costs...

Exactly. There's not much penalty in fuel economy with the V8 compared to the E320.
I wish Mercedes would've put the V8 in the wagon.....I'd have one in my garage right now if they had.
