NewMember here but not new to MB. Just bought an 82 240D for my 17 yr old Daughter. Great shape with low miles But I've got a Problem
Car bangs into gears at high revs. Scary to hear it trying for 4th gear. Found a black vaccuum line going through firewall connected to nothing. Capped it but no improvement. have switched line around to give direct vaccuum to tranny Module and she'll switch into gears at lower than normal speeds, searching irratically up and down between gears around 35MPH.
I suspect the Throttle Position device that sit on the back top of the injector pump is bad. The car was shifting fine til it ran out of fuel a week ago. Roadside repair had T. P. apart and the O ring was cracked. It doesn't snap together with authority.
I'd checked under the Black box on the valve cover and one of the 2 switches ( Idle sensor) wore through it's glide. But Vaccuum gage says it still works.
Always been lucky with Vaccuum. Sure it 's part of the learning curve. but I'm so confused.
Is there somewhere's a diagram with values? Haven't found it in my manual.
