Wow fantastic. I had the same problem on my 1980 300sd with only 2nd gear starts. I found the relay, soldered the broken link, and now I have first gear takeoff. This trans 722.120 works a bit different than the 722.118 in the 1980 300d i used to have as the w123 first gear takeoff is 100% vacuum related with no relay involved. fyi in case someone else stumbles upon this old thread.
