No, I've had no problems with the extra taillights blowing fuses in my '85 300D-T. I would check the fuse to make sure it is the correct size and then check the tail lights to make sure the bulbs are the correct wattage. The only other thing I can think of is something that would occasionally cause a short circuit, like a wire being pinched against a sharp piece of metal.
