Never discount possible ground problems, noise on the ground can cause errors.

I had some communication codes on one of my '94s, checked and it had the later OVP relay, replaced it anyway and last I checked; no codes. I'm thinking a high-resistance relay contact might have been causing some noise or voltage transients in the supply to these computers.
