I can't stand the way I sound, either. Of course, I like the way I look in the mirror better than the way I look in pictures. I guess cameras and tape recorders are much more objective that our self-perceptions are.

I guess that you could modify the way you speak considerably, depending upon how much time and effort you were willing to put into it.
