Yeah, I'm scratching my head over that one, too. Then again, that thing about "he who has the most toys upon death wins" makes no mention that the toys need to be operable.

The rear door lock pods on my '77 300D were similar when I picked up the car. Cleaning the gunk and corrosion off of the mechanisms in the door made a world of difference. You may as well start by popping the rear door panels off for an inspection.
