116 fuel accumulator question

This is on a 1980 280SE

I've had a hot start problem and I'm pretty well convinced the issue is back under the trunk: I'm swapping in a new fuel pressure accumulator and pump check valve. My first question is . . . can the fuel pump be taken apart and cleaned? It looks like the only way in is to uncrimp the metal pinches on the rim and draw out the assembly? Not too much specific info from my thread searches on here. Someone also recommended using diesel fuel to clean, also running it in reverse. Any suggestions would help.

The other question has to do with the accumulator itself. The one on the car has one port on the pressure side. The replacement part has two ports. Here is a photo of an old version on top and the new version underneath.

My arrangement is identical to the lower assembly except for my accumulator. They indicate a "closing cone" as item 29. I'm thinking that's just a plug. I have an email in to Phil to see if there is a single port version available. Anyone familiar with this thing?
