Exclamation Does anybody know if/how you can properly swap a catalytic converter asap?????

I just bought a 97' E420, (very nice car!) but it needs emissions done.
The check engine light came on a couple days after i bought it.
So, i assumed he had it cleared for the sale (A-HOLE!).
Anyway, i had it taken to a local shop, they said it was one of the catalytic converters that was causing the problem/light.
They said that they couldn't do the repair, but they know who could, and it would be around $1,400 bucks JUST FOR ONE side (either one that was messed up) or just above 3g's for both!
WTH? Are they freakn serious?
Well with that said, i had just searched on-line to see what all that was about, and this is what i came across.
http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=catalytic+converter+for+a+97%27+Mercedes+E420&sa=N&lnk=next&start=10
Waaaay, cheaper!
So what does that mean for me?
Why are they cheaper?
How do i get this stuff done, with only a couple hundred bucks?

Whoever reads/Replies Thank you so much for Ur time and advice!
