green technologies for the common man?

I am thinking seriously about taking advantage of my 1 acre lot with a closed loop geothermal heat exchanger and also a 10-20KW grid tie solar collection platfom which will also serve as a garage roof. I want to take advantage of some of the money O is throwing at alt energy. does anyone have experience:

1. geothermal heat exchanger in FLA? does the 2 meter depth requirement for the water loop apply in FLA?

2. Has anyone built a large solar array off of the ground, or done anything with grid tie power generation?

any experience is appreciated.
