With w124 there are no such problems. Since the 1987 300D is so rare you might want to consider the 1993-1995 E300D with non-turbo OM606. That particular engine has oil-jets for pistons etc and seems to hold up 400hp nicely. For tranny you need 722.3 automatic or Getrag manual from 190E 2.3-16. The automatic should be from diesel model so that the shifting points are not in too high rpm:s.

If you want bulletproof engine you can upgrade to aftermarket conrods and pistons from OM606.962 turbo engine. Or swap the whole engine to OM606.962.


So to me it seems perfect with a 4valve w124 without any internal upgrades if 400hp is enough.. Now just Need to wait for a cheap 124 to appear
