O.D.--

I have a suspicious noise in my 300D and was wondering if I could compare notes with your situation.

I've gone thru my valve adjustment twice on a 234K engine, all valves are + - .001 within specs, and cam followers appeared OK the last time I had the valve cover off.

There is a tapping noise that sounds like it's in the upper end of the engine, so your post made me woder if I have the same problem. It almost sounds like a small gasket leak at an exhaust port, but I can't detect the smell of burnt fuel under the hood.

1) Could you describe more closely the nature of the noise you had, and whether it was worse under acceleration that coasting,

and

2) were you able to remove the springs with the head still in place?

Thanks,
