This is not an argument but, I have never understood how when the US was just starting to recover from our "Great Depressioin" was able to afford to send massive amounts of Manpower and Equipment all over the world in WWII.
Supply equipment to Allied Countries during the war and help rebuild Europe after the War with the "Marshall Plan".
How and who paid for all of the above?
Also I do not know if we have a huge Military compared to the past. It is clear that that are having to rotate Troops back the Iraq were as in Vietnam they rotated out of the country and later sent home. They were replaced by mostly drafted personel.
(When I was in the Army during that time period my best guess is that 10% of those I served with v
olunteered for service; the rest had been drafted.)
