Just looked at a 240D (4 speed, no mystery about that however). Owner said body was straight and in good shape. Saw the car, could see the rocker rust from 30 feet away. Lifted the plywood lying in front of the driver's seat. Could see the ground. Showed him. Told him that was rust. Went back to my car. See!! No rust. Went back to his car. See! Rust! Arggghh. What do people think, you will magically fall in love with their precious rusty MB and ignore the rust??
