85 300D Mountain Driving, and transmission life?

My 300D seems to strain on sharp inclines. Needless to say when you "build" your own car, your mind can literally conjure up anxiety filled visions of every nut, bolt and component you installed when the car starts going up a 45 degree incline. Somewhere in the crankcase, you wonder if you really torqued the connecting rod nut on #3 piston correctly, or if u should have used more Loctite on your Main Pulley...

My QUESTION is how much does Mountain driving shorten Automatic Transmission Life? I dont mind servicing it or replacing it but I would rather not. Should i adjust the shift linkage to make it shift faster? The box has 250,000 on it. I wish i could put a Manual tarsnmission on it.
