It's not really just a random thought. Here in Southern Cal. you occasionally see the $35k 500E, probably with a bunch of miles, and if you put $40 or so into it you'd still have less than what it takes to get into an E55. Mind you, I like the E55, but I dearly hate dealing with the new car process. And believe me, an E55 would never see this thing coming....it could be a real brute. Wonder how much the V12 weighs compared to the 5-liter?
