I am not a sunroof expert by any means, but I have read a number of times on the Ritter-Easley list that MB sunroofs which have the "tilt" feature, like the ones in your car and mine, are devilishly challenging to fix when they eventually go lame, and are really not in the DIY category by most accounts. Sounds to me that you probably came out of the situation about as well as could be expected ...
