Hey Andy,

The two symptoms do not appear to be from the same culprit. The clunk could definitely be a lower ball joint, but the groan could very well be wheel bearings that are in need of a repack.

I'd have a front end shop check for play in the ball joints before tackling them............it's a miserable job............and a spring compressor is almost mandatory.

While you are in there, I'd seriously look at the LCA bushings and the guide rod mounts. If they've never been done, the time to do them is when the spring is out.

If you're feeling flush, the upper control arms and stabilizer bar bushings would be next on the list.
