Shouldn't you be able to tell by comparing the VIN on the head or block with the one on the chassis?
I will say that my 617 with 363K sounds better than the one in Johnhef's wagon, and that one only has ~250K. I suspect that with most 617's that are still around, the level of care provided to the engine over it's life
