But why spend $140 every two years when you could spend $300 once (for quality rebuilds) and have them last much, much longer?

Two reasons. I've used the cheapo GSP axles in subarus that saw steering angles on top of drive force and they've lasted fine.

Second reason- I'm coming from a solid axle background I don't like CVs to begin with. I guess I just don't really believe any boots will last past 5 years or so and given past experience with my subaru and roommate's subaru the GSP axles would be comparable to OEM in durability.

Sounds like in this case the MIC axles aren't comparable in the wear category so quality rebuilts sound like the next best option. That said I've got a couple hundred miles on the GSP axles for the 300D and they're doing the only things I wanted from the axles- transferring force and being quiet.

If/when they give up I won't be the type to buy again if the failure is premature. Could I really get 7-10 years out of quality rebuilts? Gladly spend the money if I can.
