Somewhat like folks picking on the Glow Plug relay as the 1st source of a Glow Plug problem there is a tendency to blame the part that we least understand.
With a Mechanic picking the wrong thing it looks suspicious.
When a Mechanic tells you something that seems to lack logic one might ask him if he will be giving a complete refund if what he wants to fix does not solve the problem.
