On account of the close quarters action many zip guns are smoothbored which can be done with the proper cutting broach, boring bar or long industrial drill bit. Usually 2 cylindrical Briggs & Stratton lawnmower mufflers are used, but some creative types favor PVC pipe, lined with steel wool soaked in Lithium grease to absorb the sound. Naturally these "one use" weapons are destroyed after performing their tasks.
