Hi
The blowby from the valve cover is directed into the oil seperator which sends the oil back to the oil pan and the vapor into the intake. Its a good idea to clean the filter housing up now and then - but the main thing is to replace the paper filter before it become blinded by oil and affects performance by restricting air flow to the engine.
