Well, I just love my new to me 240d! Nice and quiet, beautiful smooth ride. I just drove it from southern Vermont, out to I-90 to Niagra Falls, then on to Toronto and from there another 2 hours north. About 12 hours of driving. Apart from the trans. issues, the car purred all the way home.


The trans. as mentioned goes through all gears by 20-25mph, which renders the car totally gutless. Manually shifting and the car does well. Went up the steepest hills without any loss of speed. I suppose I need to invest in a Mityvac to properly test the vacuum stuff. I did what I could with no tester handy, blew through the vacuum switches at various throttle positions and they appear to work.

I do have a 4 speed that I could replace the auto box with, but this car is nice enough that I'll keep it all original, so I would like to diagnose and fix the auto.
