92 400E transmission

Steve, It's not that it takes long to engage. It engages but not under load. In other words, you can feel it step into gear but when the accelerator is pressed, no matter how gently, the engine will rev up for a second and then clunk into gear. It feels as though you could snap a universal joint. It then takes a block to upshift. This is not usual. I've driven a lot of these cars and never felt this before. The car only has 44K Miles on it. It lived in San Francisco and maybe the hills had something to do with it. Thanks for replying.
