I've had condenser issues on my W210 and my W202 series cars. In both cases the failure mode was the same, a rock/pebble hit the condenser and punched a small hole in one of the condensing tubes.

These newer condensers are paper thin, they do a great job of heat transfer but they are not nearly as tough as the condensers on some of the older models.

As Matt points out the "upside" is that a new condenser is only a couple hundred dollars and they are not hard to change.
