I was hoping that the spindle alone could be bought. It is in fact attached with a cotter pin.
In my case the end 'ears' of the spindle got worn off.
So I ordered the new "lock guide' as it is called, i.e. tumbler and spindle. it comes with an extra key. They need the VIN number of course.

DON'T PULL ON THE HANDLE WITH THE LOCK REMOVED.
you will cause the handle to come off the internal opening latch. You need to get a thin long screw driver to pull back that latch and simultaneously fit in the handle's L shaped puller.
