Drawing a blank, and I see no one else has piped up yet.
The only dial that comes to mind might be on the sunroof motor, it would be on the drivers side up around the top of the wheel well sheetmetal, it is rotated to manually close the sunroof if it fails. It's about the size of a silver dollar. It's on the side of the motor, you would see the tube that contains the sunroof cable going up into the roof area and also a short section goes back towards the tail light. MAYBE the manual operation knob is stuck on the end of the tube? I don't remember it being stored there, I thought it stayed on the motor itself, hmmm. You got an owners manual you can check for emergency operation of the sunroof?
If this is making no sense, what would help is WHERE in the trunk it is, the size, the markings on it (in German is fine if you aren't sure what it says). The details you gaive are all really sketchy.
