You lift the wood panel up off the gearshift to access it. On my 1987, you first lift the carpet up from the "spare change" center console near armrest. Exposes 2 screws there, undo. Lift panel, it is hinged at the front under the ashtray, so tilt it up from the rear then tuck it out from under the ashtray. To make it easier as you're doing this and to get over the shift knob, you may want to change gear selector positions (put brake on). Some switches are mounted to the panel and may lift up with the panel, they detach and can be re-inserted into their frame below again. You'll see how the bulb is accessed from the front of the gearshift enclosure once you're in there. Careful not to crack the varnish on the wood. Careful not to break plastic hooks holding the panel under the ashtray.
